The Artist
Pavlos Triantaris acquired his Ptychion title in piano performance in 2010. He has been indulging in the study of pipe organ literature and its liturgical use since his first acquaintance with the king of instruments at the age of 19 in his homeland, Greece; initially only with a meagre 10-stop instrument which was the only organ in his city of residence, and without a tutor available. Even so, his enthusiasm for the organ resulted in numerous related appointments, not least among them his organist duty for the Hellenic premiere of Louis Vierne’s Missa Solemnis in the German Church of Athens, in 2016.
Having relocated to Bristol in 2017, he held his first organist position in Henleaze. His organ instructors include Christos Paraskevopoulos, Jonathan D R Price, and Benjamin Chewter. From May 2019 to August 2020, he served as organ scholar at Chingford Parish Church under Michael Emerson, and accompanied the choir for services at major churches such as Christchurch Priory and Durham Cathedral. His next appointment was at St Thomas of Canterbury, Brentwood, for a further scholarship year. As of July 2022, he is organist with Letchworth Traditional Anglican Church and the Poscimur travelling choir.
He has given recitals at numerous venues including King’s Lynn Minster, St Mary Redcliffe and St Bride’s. He occasionally serves at other posts as freelance organist, and is an active member of the Organists’ Associations of Bristol and Enfield.
His oeuvre also includes compositional projects, starting from small-scale pieces such as hymn tunes, chants, and hymn arrangements, to more recent work (and WIPs) including a Lied with lyrics from Tolkien’s ‘Lord of the Rings’, a Passionsmusik inspired by Bach, and a collection of solo organ works – ‘Hiraeth’.
Pavlos is a tax associate by trade, and his free-time endeavours will rarely find him away from the exploration of the English countryside, which he profoundly admires, or literature, with a particular proclivity for C S Lewis and J R R Tolkien.
