The Artist

Andrew Prior started playing the organ at the age of eight as a result of being told by his teacher that if he actually did some piano practice and finished the piece he was learning, he would be allowed to play his local church organ.

There followed organ scholarships to HM Chapel Royal, Hampton Court Palace and then Pembroke College, Cambridge where Andrew read Music. After graduating, a career in the law was pursued until early retirement enabled a return to playing the organ, not least because he was ordered to do so by his former teacher at Cambridge, Dame Gillian Weir.

Andrew is a Trustee of the Orgelbüchlein Project, which succeeded in filling the blank pages of chorales J S Bach intended to complete in the unfinished ‘Little Organ Book’.
