The Artist

Carmen Farfan began her Classical Guitar studies at the age of six. A prizewinner of national competitions, Carmen has performed in concerts throughout her native country of Venezuela and the United Kingdom. In 2011 she won first prize in the National Guitar Competition ‘Alírio Díaz’ and in 2014 won the National Guitar Competition of Angostura. In 2015 Carmen graduated as an Art Middle Technician (Guitar Performance) from the ‘Voces de Carayaca’ Arts School in Carayaca Venezuela.

Her regular participation in masterclasses with visiting international guitarists such as Matthew McAllister, José Antonio Escobar, Otto Tolonen, Lukasz Kuropaczewski, Luis Zea and Pavel Steidl, has helped enhance Carmen’s learning and originally encouraged her to look outside of Venezuela to facilitate the next step in her education. In 2021 she graduated as a Bachelor of Music Performance (Hons), Classical Guitar from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Glasgow, thanks to the generous support of ABRSM.

Carmen is the first Venezuelan guitarist who has been given a full scholarship to study at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Carmen’s education and experience entitle her to perform a broad range of repertoire and teach Classical Guitar and Music Theory at any level. She is currently living in London where she works as a freelance Classical Guitar performer and teacher.
