The Artist

A student of Jeremy Davis for 15 years who himself studied under Vlado Perlemuter, Elia Stavrou now enjoys giving performances of some of the most virtuosic pieces in the piano repertoire. Elia’s first concert series that he devised and entitled ‘Masks’ after Debussy’s piano masterpiece back in 2019, saw him perform works by three French composers. As part of this programme he performed Ravel’s Gaspard de la Nuit in venues around the country with the series of concerts concluding at the Landmark Arts Centre in Teddington. Elia also took part in the Ealing Music and Film Festival just before the lockdowns in 2020, giving a solo recital there.

His love for the treacherously notorious set of works, Gaspard de la Nuit, inspired the name for the music studio and record label he created in the back end of 2020. Gaspard Music Academy is not just a hub for musicians based in Richmond, West London, where classes and concerts take place, but is also home to the Gaspard Music Academy Record label that Elia also created. It was on this label that his debut album, Pieces of Reflection, was recorded. The album was inspired by the pianist’s experience of lockdown and the music that he learnt and revised during this time. On this album is found music by Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Brahms, Scriabin and Greek composer Constantinidis.

The beginning of 2022 saw the return of live performance for Elia with a new programme entitled Truths. The programme includes music by Beethoven, Chopin and Fauré with one concert organiser describing it as ‘a wonderful concert’. Another review for the recital read ‘His vivacity and love for his art is offered to us, so generously’.
