The Artists

James Gaughan is an experienced soloist, specialising in the song and concert repertoire. He gives regular recitals throughout the year, including past performances at: Bradford, Bristol, St Mary’s Episcopal (Edinburgh), Lincoln, Manchester, Sheffield and Wakefield Cathedrals; as well as at Southwell Minster and venues in Cambridge, Chesterfield, Coventry, Harrogate, Hexham, Nottingham, York and others. Upcoming recitals include performances in Cambridge, Carlisle, Nottingham, Portsmouth, Scarborough, York and London.

James also performs regularly as a soloist with choirs and choral societies. Past engagements include with: Burton Joyce Choral Society; Holmfirth Choral Society; Horsforth Choral Society; Huddersfield Voices; Hull Choral Union; Nottingham Hospitals Choir; Ruddington and District Choral Society; Scarborough Choral Society; Wakefield Festival Chorus and Southbank Singers (York). Works include: Elijah (Mendelssohn); Israel in Egypt (Handel); Mass in a Time of War (Haydn); Requiem (Brahms, Fauré); Stabat Mater (Astorgia) and Messiah (Handel).

David Hammond grew up in Thame, Oxfordshire, where he was taught piano by Judy Thompson. He has been working in York as a musician since graduating from the University of York in 2002, where he studied piano with Liz Haddon. His career has taken him to many varied venues, such as Castle Howard, York Minster, the Royal Festival Hall and Bridgewater Hall.
Much of his work involves accompanying soloists and groups on the piano, including concert work, exams and university assessments. Groups include the South Bank Singers, the Sounds Fun choir, York Philharmonic Male Voice Choir and Fiddlers Wreck ceilidh band. He is a regular musician at the Unitarian Chapel in York.
