The Artists
Leo Kerr and Tim Rumsey started playing together when both studying at the Royal Academy of Music, and formed a trio with a fellow violinist to discover new repertoire together. This led to the well-established Pearl Trio, with concerts taking place around London. Being a keen composer, Tim completed a fearsome arrangement of George Gershwin’s ‘An American in Paris’ as well as a new, original composition which the trio played, recordings of which can be found online. Being firm friends, Leo and Tim still enjoy playing together and are currently expanding their list of duo repertoire.
Leo Kerr graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in 2023 where he studied with Benjamin Mellefont and Christopher Richards. Having grown up in Edinburgh, Leo attended St Mary’s Music School where he played Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto after winning their Concerto Prize. Leo enjoys playing in orchestras including the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland Symphony Orchestra and the Knussen Chamber Orchestra, as well as performing in the Queen Elizabeth Hall alongside the London Sinfonietta. He has also participated in several masterclasses, working with Yehuda Gilad and Martin Frost among others. A champion of contemporary music, Leo has premiered and recorded works for solo Bass Clarinet by Emma Kate-Matthews and Darren Bloom.
Tim Rumsey is a UK-based soloist, chamber musician and accompanist, having delighted audiences at venues including the V&A Museum, Cheltenham’s Pitville Pump Room, Chichester Cathedral and at numerous festivals around the UK. Much in demand, Tim fills a busy schedule with both solo and concerto performances as well as chamber recitals, and is recording his debut album this summer with Luminate Records, featuring a variety of his own arrangements and virtuosic transcriptions.
Alongside performing, he has a busy teaching schedule including at St Catherine’s School in Bramley and the Junior Department of the Royal Academy of Music, as well as finding time for adjudicating and the study of piano pedagogy. Being a fine jazz pianist and composer, these interests also feed into his teaching, and he encourages pupils of all ages to think creatively and independently.
