The Artist

Pei-En Wu is a Taiwanese pianist currently in her second year of an undergraduate degree at the Royal Academy of Music, studying with Ian Fountain. Having played the piano since the age of four, Pei-En has been a laureate of various competitions including: International Piano Open Competition in Hong Kong, International Young Pianist Competition in Japan and China Youth Music Competition. In 2020, she won the third prize at the National Student Competition of Music, the most prestigious music competition in Taiwan, followed by her public recital debut later the year.

Despite being born in Taiwan, Pei-En grew up in Shanghai and studied with Natalia Filippova, associate professor at the Middle School of Shanghai Conservatory of Music, for seven years. She has also performed in some major concert venues across the city, including the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Hall, the Oriental Arts Center, and the He Luting Concert Hall. Over the years, Pei-En has gained inspiration from lessons and masterclasses with musicians such as Steven Osborne, Christopher Elton, Yevgeny Sudbin, Chun-Chieh Yen, Jayson Gillham, Andrei Yeh, Yi-Chih Lu and Wei-Lung Li.

She has been invited to perform in the Academy’s annual summer piano festival in both years of her studies, and came second (‘Very Highly Commended’) in the Musicians’ Company Harriet Cohen Bach Prize 2023. In addition to being a soloist, Pei-En performs regularly with her Gokotta clarinet trio and serves as a cellist in orchestras.
