The Artists

Sasha Canter began learning the trumpet at the age of eight. At the age of 13 he successfully auditioned for places in the National Children’s Orchestra and the CBSO Youth Orchestra. In 2017 Sasha started at the Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama – whilst there he was runner up in the prestigious Lutine Prize and was also awarded the Brass Prize. Sasha was a member of the National Youth Brass Band GB for two years, 2019-2021, playing solo cornet on every course. He has recently spent a year in the National Youth Orchestra culminating in a televised BBC Prom concert last August. Earlier in 2022 Sasha was a finalist in the ‘Rizzardo Bino’ International Competition for young soloists in Italy. He also travelled to Sicily in 2021 and 2022 to take part in the international masterclasses given by the eminent trumpet players and teachers, Rheinhold Friedrich and Kristian Steenstrup.

Sasha has been taught by Simon Munday for the past six years and has recently started his studies with Mark David at the Royal Academy of Music. Sasha is also learning the baroque (natural) trumpet. He recently took part in a masterclass given by David Blackadder and played a concerto with the Oxfordshire Music Service baroque orchestra. He will be studying natural trumpet with Bob Farley at the RAM. Sasha has been studying conducting with Scott Wilson and recently conducted the CBSO Youth Orchestra in a conducting workshop with Michael Seal. Sasha was the winner of the Brass Category Final of the BBC Young Musician 2022.

Rustam Khanmurzin is a Young Artist of The Musicians’ Company and the Oxford Lieder Festival, a former Constant and Kit Lambert Junior Fellow at the Royal College of Music where he studied with Ian Jones and Kathron Sturrock.
