The Artists
Sharon Zhou is a violinist and conductor, studying at the Royal College of Music with Professor Detlef Hahn and Toby Purser respectively. She has given many concerts as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician in the UK, Europe and China and is regularly invited as a guest soloist by a range of orchestras. From a young age, she participated in international masterclasses, gaining insight from some of the most renowned musicians at Astona International, Valdres Sommer Symphoni, Verão Classico, Internationale Sommerakademie Mozarteum Salzburg, alongside others. At the 34th Eastbourne Young Soloist Competition, she was awarded the St Cecilia’s Bequest, for the best performer under 18, as well as the Colonel Howes Prize. She received the silver award at the Internationales Musikfest in Vienna last year, where she made her debut at the Musikverein.
Sharon is a recipient of the 2023 RPS Julius Isserlis Scholarship which supported her studies at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien (The University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna) as part of an exchange programme, where she studied with Professor Ernst Kovacic.
Kailing Zhang is a pianist from China. She began her musical journey at The Middle School Attached to Sichuan Conservatory of Music, where she graduated in 2021. During her time there, Kailing gave solo concerts in Sichuan and Yunnan Provinces, showcasing her skills and passion for music. In September 2021, Kailing embarked on a new adventure as she began her Bachelor of Music degree at the Royal College of Music. She is currently studying under Professor Gordon Fergus-Thompson, a renowned pianist and educator.
Kailing’s dedication to her craft has taken her around the world for masterclasses and music festivals in countries such as the USA and in Europe. She has had the privilege of learning from some of the most esteemed pianists of our time, including Dmitri Alexeev, Pascal Nemirovski, HaeSun Paik, Alexander Shtarkman, Kathryn Brown and many others.
