The Artists

Praised for her rich lyrical timbre, dynamic stage presence, and fearless approach to 20th and 21st Century works, Christine Buras’ repertoire spans from Baroque chamber music to the operas of Verdi and Strauss – and to contemporary performance art.

Having grown up in Washington DC, she has been based in London since 2013, where her operatic roles include Contessa Almaviva (Mozart – Le nozze di Figaro), Gretel (Humperdinck – Hänsel und Gretel), Helmwige (Wagner – Die Walküre), Erste Dienerin (Strauss – Die ägyptische Helena), Suor Dolcina (Puccini – Suor Angelica), Hélène (Chabrier – Une éducation manquée), and Lucy (Menotti – The Telephone). She is a keen performer of recital and concert repertoire, and with pianist Thomas Ang was a finalist in the 2020 Oxford Lieder Young Artist Competition.

This season Christine made her role debuts as Fiordiligi (Cosi fan tutte – Regents Opera) and Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus – Carshalton Opera). In the coming year, Christine looks forward to performances of the Strauss Four Last Songs and Handel’s Ode for St Cecilia’s Day with the Hampstead Collective, and Donna Anna with Regents Opera.

Praised for his thoughtful and critical programming and excellent technique, Thomas Ang is an experienced pianist with a vast repertoire. He has earned recognition as a specialist in the music of Kapustin and Medtner, and has a strong interest in contemporary and experimental music, having played and conducted various premieres around the world. In his chamber groups he works to unearth neglected and obscure gems, as well as championing music by minority composers. Off the concert stage, Thomas works as a répétiteur for the Royal Ballet and Opera Holland Park, and also accompanies and improvises for silent film. He is currently recording the complete piano works of Medtner, and the first three discs have received great reviews.
