The Artist
South Korean pianist Sejin Yoon is a soloist and chamber musician. Her playing is particularly known for its delicacy, sensitivity and virtuosity. Sejin is currently in the first year of her Master’s degree at the Royal Academy of Music, where she is a recipient of the Elizabeth and George Wells Scholarship. She is The Musicians’ Company’s Young Artist and holds The Musician’s Company Carnwath Piano Scholarship. Sejin is grateful for the further support she receives from Help Musicians and the Countess of Munster Trust. Her most recent engagements include the Academy’s internal competition, the Sterndale Bennett Prize, where she was awarded the first prize by the adjudicator Charles Owen, as well as the Historical Women Composers Prize established by Diana Ambache. She previously completed her undergraduate studies with a First-Class Honours at the Royal Academy of Music, where she held a full scholarship supported by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM).
She first emerged as a young artist at the age of nine, as she was the youngest pianist to perform at the Kumho Prodigy Concert Series. She appeared soon after as a soloist performing the Shostakovich Piano Concerto No 2 with the Gwacheon Symphony Orchestra. At the age of twelve, she was invited to perform with the Wuhan Philharmonic Orchestra in China playing Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G major. In 2015, Sejin received a full scholarship to study at Wells Cathedral School with Professor John Byrne. She was one of five keyboard category finalists for BBC Young Musician 2020, broadcast on BBC Four, and the following year she performed with conductor Chloé van Soeterstède in Wells Cathedral. Her upcoming engagements and full biography can be found on sejinyoon.com including her return to Wigmore Hall in June.
