The Artists
The London Flute Quintet was formed to explore the musical possibilities of combining all the members of the flute family – from Piccolo to Bass. We mainly write our own arrangements which exploit an amazing range of tone colours and are a fresh take on much-loved classics.
Nili Newman has played the flute professionally with all the major orchestras in the UK. As a young musician she won top prizes at the Kuhlau International Flute Competition, and the British Flute Society Competition. Nili studied at the Curtis Institute of Music and at the Royal Academy of Music.
Corinne Larzul, from San Francisco, has been living and playing in London for the past 16 years. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Flute performance from San Jose State University and a Master’s degree from the University of North Texas.
Ami Lodge holds a Master’s in Music Performance from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. In addition to teaching, Ami plays with Kensington Symphony Orchestra and freelances with a number of other orchestras and chamber groups around the UK.
Derek Benton studied flute in Manchester under the tuition of Alan Lockwood from the BBC Philharmonic. Derek is principal flute with the LGSO and the West London Sinfonia. He performs regularly as a concerto soloist with these orchestras and also is increasingly responsible for many of LFQ’s fine arrangements!
Sarah Ovenden graduated from Trinity Laban Conservatoire in 2016 (MMus) with Distinction and now freelances around the UK in orchestras and as a soloist. She has played with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and is currently principal flute of Farnham Sinfonia, Orchestra of the Reform Club, and the Waldegrave Ensemble who released their debut album in 2017.
