The Artists

The OctoNove Ensemble is delighted to return to St Bride’s for its fourth recital. We are a chamber music ensemble featuring some of the finest amateur musicians in London:
Claire Maugham – violin – studied at the Royal College of Music, and read English at Cambridge University. She is a corporate affairs director and plays in numerous ensembles across London.
Born in Versailles, Meïdi Chalal – viola – started violin at five and viola at 23. He studied music in Paris, Grenoble and Lyon, and also plays cello.
Alison Atkinson – cello – works at the National Gallery where she manages the database of all customers, members and donors of the Gallery.
Jamie Parkinson – double bass – is a trade union official, sending and receiving emails. He has now put too much time and effort into playing the double bass to be ready to reconsider whether that was a good idea.
Alongside performing, Caroline Welsh – flute – leads creative workshops in partnership with the Wigmore Hall, LSO, City of London Sinfonia, and guides the development of young musicians.
Dan Elson – oboe – is a Professor of Surgical Imaging and Biophotonics, working at the interface of science, engineering, technology and medicine at Imperial College London. He regularly plays with Forest Philharmonic and Kensington Chamber Orchestra.
Charlotte Woolley – clarinet – is a senior civil servant working for the Ministry of Defence. She has a DPhil in Laser Physics and is Chair of Trustees for the South East London Orchestra. In spare moments she bakes cakes.
Matthew Sackman – horn – spends his days telling computers what to do, and looking on in horror when they do exactly that. He spends his evenings doing much the same thing, but with his Horn.
Alex Moss – bassoon – studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and has worked with professional orchestras in the UK and Portugal. Alex is a forensic accountant, specialising in international fraud investigations.
