Orchestral Eucharist – Trinity Sunday

Sunday 31st May, 2026, at 11:00 am

All are welcome to attend this choral service of Holy Communion to mark our observance of Trinity Sunday which commemorates the Christian doctrine of God: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit — three persons in one substance, an eternal community of love.

We are delighted to announce that St Bride’s Choir will be joined by the St Bride’s Orchestra to perform Mozart’s Missa in honorem Sanctissimae Trinitatis in C K167.

Additional Information

Directions to St Bride’s Church and information about accessibility are available on our Visit Us page. The service lasts approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Mozart – Missa in honorem Sanctissimae Trinitatis in C K167

Mozart composed the Mass in honour of the most Holy Trinity in C K167 in 1773 in Salzburg which was under the authority of the grandly-titled Prince-Archbishop Hieronymus Joseph Franz de Paula Graf Colloredo von Wallsee und Melz.

Colloredo dictated that liturgical musical settings should be short. This is a solemn mass including the Credo rather than a missa brevis but Mozart shortened the setting by having no music for solo singers – all the text is sung by the four-part choir. However, it is still likely to have raised the Archbishop’s eyebrow as it remained longer than the proscribed twenty minutes.

Colloredo also had an apparent distaste for violas which Mozart dutifully excluded. However, he did include four trumpets and timpani which were forbidden in the stricter centres of Rome and Vienna but were perhaps acceptable in the countryside setting of Salzburg and for such a festive occasion.

Many of Mozart’s works received titles from others, but he titled this setting himself.

Online Worship

Each Sunday morning at 11am we release a specially created short reflection in words and music for those who cannot make it to church. It will be posted on this page and across our social media channels.

Almighty and everlasting God,
who hast given unto us thy servants grace,
by the confession of a true faith to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity,
and in the power of the Divine Majesty to worship the Unity:
We beseech thee, that thou wouldest keep us stedfast in this faith,
and evermore defend us from all adversities,
who livest and reignest, one God, world without end. Amen.
