Claire Sutton Williams, mezzo-soprano, studied as a vocal scholar at the Royal Academy of Music and at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Operatic highlights include Dido in Dido and Aenas, Purcell for Le Concert d’Anvers in deSingel, Antwerp and for The Royal Academy of Music Baroque Soloists; Eltruda in Alfred, Thomas Arne for Doha Baroque Orchestra on behalf of the British Embassy; Unulfo in Rodelinda, and La Zia Principessa in Puccini’s Suor Angelica and The Witch in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel for Berlin Opera Festival and most recently Siegrune in Die Walkure, Wagner and Isolde in a chamber setting of Tristan und Isolde, Wagner. Summer opera festivals include multiple appearances at Festival Aix-en-Provence, France, The Grange Festival and Opera Holland Park.
As an ensemble singer, Claire has worked with many of the UK’s leading ensembles, including Britten Sinfonia Voices, Philharmonia Voices, Tenebrae, English Voices. Claire performs regularly in solo recitals and in concerts in London and internationally, including Cadogan Hall, St Martin-in-the-Fields, St John’s Smith Square, Shakespeare’s Globe, Hallé St Peters, La Madeleine, Paris, Chartres Cathedral, France, Chassé Theatre, Breda Netherlands and the Pinoteca Nazionale di Siena, Italy, Royal Festival Hall, Shanghai Symphony Hall and Hong Kong Philharmonic Hall.
Claire began her training as a founding girl chorister at Leeds Minster and Ripon Cathedral and is forever grateful for an excellent musical education. Claire is excited to recently have become a member of the choir at St Bride’s and is looking forward to being part of a regular team again.
