Christopher Betterton and Canon Alison Joyce exchange farewells on the St Bride's altar steps

Scotland’s gain is St Bride’s loss

Very sadly for us, Christopher Betterton, who has been part of our life since the 1980s, is relocating north of the border.

On Sunday, Christopher formerly stood down as Churchwarden at the Annual PCC meeting. We expressed our heartfelt gratitude to him for all that he has given to us over the years, in so many ways. He has not only been one of our most committed worshippers throughout this time, but he has also served as our Sunday verger and as an exemplary PCC secretary, at various times.

Christopher is a long-standing member of the Guild of St Bride and was latterly its Deputy Marshal. As Churchwarden, his wisdom, insight, efficiency, and professionalism, as well as his tireless commitment to the life and work of St Bride’s, has been beyond price, particularly through the difficult months of lockdown.

We shall all miss Christopher tremendously – and insist that he comes back to visit us regularly! We are hoping that Christopher will be able to join us for Guild Sunday which this year will be held in July. By then, we should be permitted to raise a glass to him, and express our sincere thanks in an appropriately celebratory fashion! Our love and our prayers go with him for this next phase of life.
