FUNERALS, MEMORIALS & DEDICATIONS

Memorial: Andrew Norfolk
A service of thanksgiving for the life of Andrew Norfolk will take place at St Bride’s Church, the Journalists’ Church, on Thursday 25th September at 11:30am.
Norfolk was born in Canterbury in 1965 and went on to read English at Durham University. His journalism career began at The Scarborough Evening News and The Yorkshire Post.
Too self-effacing, his brother applied to The Times on Norfolk’s behalf. The paper recruited him in 2000 and he became their chief investigative reporter in 2012.
His award-winning investigations into grooming gangs provoked Rotherham council into ordering an independent inquiry.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer said he was “absolutely integral” in helping change the law to allow more successful convictions of gang members.
Rotherham MP Sarah Champion said he was “just the bravest and most principled person I have ever known.”
Times editor, Tony Gallagher, said Norfolk was “one of the greatest investigative reporters of our or any age.”
