FUNERALS, MEMORIALS & DEDICATIONS

David Banks whilst editor of Daily Mirror

Memorial: David Banks

Thursday 8th September, 2022, at 11:30 am

A service of thanksgiving for the life of editor and journalist David Banks will take place at St Bride’s Church, the Journalists’ Church, on Thursday 8th September at 11:30am.

Banks edited titles on three continents – the Daily Mirror in the UK, the New York Daily News in the USA and the Sydney Daily Telegraph in Australia – before branching out into radio broadcasting in the late 1990s.

Banks began his career on the Warrington Guardian before transferring to London as headline-writer for the Mirror. Working as assistant editor on The Sun, Banks was chosen by Rupert Murdoch to travel to the US to learn how to computerise newspaper production prior to News International’s move to Wapping in 1986.

Banks hosted regular shows on Talk Radio and LBC before returning to his first love as columnist on the Press Gazette, then on the Journal in Newcastle and, finally, on a local news website voiceofthenorth.net.
