A thanksgiving service for the life of journalist Nigel Hawkes, who died on 8th October 2021, aged 78, will be held at St Bride’s Church, Fleet Street.

Nigel began his journalistic career writing for science and nature periodicals before moving to The Observer for an 18 year period, firstly as Science Correspondent, then as Foreign Editor and finally Diplomatic Editor. He returned to his first calling by becoming Science Editor at The Times in 1990 and subsequently Health Editor. In later years, Nigel wrote columns for the British Medical Journal.

He is survived by his wife, Jo, and their children, Georgina, Will and Alex, and nine grandchildren.
