Memorial: Patrick O’Flynn
A memorial service giving thanks for the life of Patrick O’Flynn, journalist and politician, will take place at St Bride’s Church, the Journalists’ Church, on Thursday 24th September at 11:30am.
O’Flynn was a Westminster journalist turned politician, elected as MEP for UKIP in 2014 following a long career on the Sunday Express and Daily Express, becoming the latter’s political editor and then chief comment editor in the 2000s.
In contrast to some others in the party, his Euroscepticism was borne of concern that his readers were being left behind by the seemingly inexorable metropolitanism of the time, and he was able to redefine the UKIP’s electoral focus as its director of communications prior to his election to the European Parliament.
In later years, O’Flynn returned to journalism, writing regular columns for The Spectator.
