A service of thanksgiving for the life of journalist Shireen Abu Akleh will take place at St Bride’s Church, the Journalists’ Church, on Tuesday 28th June at 11:30am. Doors open at 11am so that people may be seated in advance of the service.
Shireen Abu Akleh had been a reporter for Al Jazeera for 25 years when she was killed whilst covering a raid on the Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank in May 2022. Born in Jerusalem, she worked as a journalist for Radio Monte Carlo and Voice of Palestine before joining Al Jazeera as one of their field correspondents in 1997, and reported on numerous military and political operations in Palestine and Israel.
After Abu Akleh’s death, the United Nations announced that it would rename its annual training programme for Palestinian broadcasters and journalists after her.
