LECTURES

We are delighted to welcome Peter York – best-selling author, broadcaster and cultural commentator – to give this year's Tom Olsen Lecture, offering some characteristically astute insights on the endlessly fascinating question of who we think we are – and who we think they are.
As a nation we go through regular bouts of worry about our place in the world and who our friends are - particularly the ‘special relationship’ with the USA and our connections with the rest of Europe.
We are in one of those anxious, muddled phases now – a sort of national identity crisis conducted through leaflets, mass rallies in London, social media madness, and, ultimately, the ballot box – and it shows no signs of going away.
York takes a clear-eyed look at the narratives we tell ourselves, the tribes and the trends in play, and provides some essential insights on the runners and riders in the upcoming battle for power in the UK.
There will be a chance to put your questions to our speaker after the lecture and the evening will conclude with a drinks reception for attendees at the back of the church.
