Sing Choirs of Angels

Sunday 24th December, 2023, at 4:30 pm

Sing Choirs of Angels is a recent addition to our Advent calendar and has proved immensely popular. It is a mix of seasonal music, readings and poetry conjuring up a celebratory yet reflective atmosphere ahead of the big day.

The event takes place on Christmas Eve at 4:30pm for all those who cannot make it to Midnight Mass or for those who need a moment to draw breath and reflect in this busiest of times.

The service is open to all, ticketless and free to attend. Pre-registration for this event is now closed. At least 75 seats have been held for those who turn up on the day without registration. Doors open 30 minutes before the service starts.

In keeping with our tradition of singing music slightly out of the ordinary at this service, St Bride’s Choir will be beginning with one of William Byrd’s comparatively few English-texted pieces, This day Christ was born. This forms part of our on-going exploration of Byrd’s work to mark the 400th anniversary of his death this year.

Music will also include two works by living composers, The Clouded Heaven by Judith Bingham (commissioned jointly by St John’s College, Cambridge and Winchester Cathedral in 1998) and Ring out, O bells by Alexander Campkin, written for Trinity College, Cambridge in 2019.

There will be a retiring collection at the end of the service to support the work, ministry and music-making of St Bride’s and help maintain our magnificent Wren church.
