A funeral service for the life of William Cran, documentary film-maker, will take place at St Bride’s Church, the Journalists’ Church, on Wednesday 2nd July at 11:30am.

William Cran was an acclaimed film-maker best known for his work on the documentaries Frontline and The Story of English.

His career spanned decades and continents – beginning at the BBC, then with CBC in Canada, and finally making a lasting impact in the U.S. with PBS.

His documentaries tackled everything from global economics to religious movements, and he was especially praised for his ability to make complex issues accessible and compelling.

Cran was born in Tasmania. His family moved to London when he was six and he was educated at Westminster School and Magdalen College, Oxford where he indulged his passion for acting and directing. However, he had already made the decision to become a documentary film-maker, a career which would win him many awards, including four Emmys and two Peabodys.
