Richard Alwyne Fyjis-Walker
19th June 1927 - 17th September 2013
On Thursday 26th September, 2013, at 11:30am a funeral service for Richard Alwyne Fyjis-Walker was held at St Bride's Church, Fleet Street.
The Venerable David Meara delivered the bidding:-
We come together to give thanks for the life of Richard Fyjis-Walker, lately entered into rest and to commend his soul to the care of our heavenly Father.
We give him back to thee, O God, who gave him first to us. What you give you do not take away for what is yours is ours also, for we too are yours. Lord, Jesus, draw us closer to yourself, that we may know ourselves to be nearer to or loved ones who are with you: and prepare us for that place where there is no sorrow or sighing but life everlasting.Amen.
The Venerable David Meara
Matthew Fyjis-Walker read Matthew 5: 1-10
5 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Alexander Fyjis-Walker read Mr Tambourine Man by Bob Dylan
Then take me disappearin’ through the smoke rings of my mind
Down the foggy ruins of time, far past the frozen leaves
The haunted, frightened trees, out to the windy beach,
Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow.
Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free
Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands,
With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves:
Let me forget about today until tomorrow.
The choir & organist of St Bride's performed the following anthems and songs:-
Allein Gott in der Höh sei Ehr - Bach
Funeral Sentences - Croft
Sanctus from Requiem - Fauré
Turn Thee unto me - Boyce
I know that my Redeemer liveth from Messiah - Handel
He Who Would Valiant Be
