A Service of Thanksgiving for the life and work of Sir Denis Marshall, former President of the Law Society, was held at St Bride' s on 12th May 2010.

The Venerable David Meara delivered the Bidding:

We meet in St Bride's to celebrate the life and honour the memory of Denis Alfred Marshall, former senior partner of Barlow, Lyde & Gilbert and President of the Law Society.

We remember him with gratitude for his wartime service in the Lancashire Fusiliers in India and then behind enemy lines in Burma, for his faithfulness and commitment to his professional career in insurance law, and to his firm, his friends and his family.

We give thanks for his generous and hospitable character; his modesty, warmth and charm; his love of sailing and the sea; and for all that he meant to us as colleague, advisor, friend, father and grandfather.

And we pray that at the end of his life's voyage he may find a safe harbour and a firm anchorage within the loving mercy of thee, our heavenly Father. May he rest in peace and find at the end of his brief day the eternity of thy Love.
