HRH The Duchess of Cornwall to attend St Bride's

The Duchess of Cornwall attending St Bride's in 2010

On Monday 22nd October 2012, Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall will attend a special service in St Bride's Church, Fleet Street entitled "A Hard Calling - Reporting from the Frontline", to commemorate journalists, cameramen and support staff who have lost their lives in the world's conflict zones while bringing us the news.

Her Royal Highness will unveil a page in the St Bride's Memorial Book dedicated to Marie Colvin, who died this year in Syria. The Duchess will also meet foreign correspondents and members of the British news media.

We are also delighted to announce that Her Royal Highness has agreed to become Patron of the Guild of St Bride, which was originally founded by King Edward III as a religious guild to assist worshipers at St Bride's Church, Fleet Street, in the City of London in 1375. In 1975, to mark the Guilds 600th anniversary, HRH The Prince of Wales attended a service of thanksgiving at St Bride's.

The Guild supports the wider work of the Church, and has this year initiated a Bursary Award for trainee journalists linked to City University, London. We hope that HRH The Duchess of Cornwall will enjoy her role as Patron of this ancient Guild which is at the heart of the life of this iconic central London church and which continues to serve the dispersed media world, the City of London, and the commercial firms in this area.
